Frida Kahlo in Budapest
Mexico arrived in Budapest with the great work one of the most celebrated icon of the Mexican art, Frida Kahlo.
Inside the important Hungarian National Gallery until November 4th of 2018 there will be an incredible collection of paintings of this Mexican artist.
My journey inside the colorful rooms of the exhibition made me feel a little bit Mexican. I like to paint water paintings and for this reason I love colors and of course in the paintings of Frida the colors play a big role. Frida with the colors attracts you into her world, for sure a colorful world but also a world of pains.
You can read lots of books about Frida’s life and her work but standing in front of her paintings I felt like I had a personal conversation with her and she was telling me her story. She told me if we have passion in life we can bypass all the difficult moments. She became an icon just by being herself and painting in a very shocking way, all her inner world and feelings. Her work, as she said many times, can Not be called surrealist or something else, her paintings are just her personal way of creating art.
The painting “the mask” is one of my favorite in the exhibit, I like it because I believe we all wear masks, for so many reasons. Frida, in this paintings is showing such a colorful mask. The mask we wear everyday as we step out of our house is to hide our pains, to protect ourselves, to show only one part of us, but Frida taught me we can paint our own mask with the colors we like the most and still remain who we really are. So we can paint our mask, wear it and go out in the world to enjoy our journey.
You know what Leonardo Da Vinci said about colors?
” the wedding between light and shade creates sons, the colors”
I agree with Leonardo, I love the work of Frida and I love colors.
